Transition for new children
We welcome new pupils at any time during their school career. Moving house and changing schools can present certain challenges, so you are strongly encouraged to take advantage of our welcome policy:
- We encourage all prospective parents and children to visit us on our open days.
- Your children are free to take part in introductory classes where they can meet teachers and students.
- As soon as you have decided to enrol your child, we strive to ensure a smooth transition into their new class.
Ecological initiatives
We are proud to be the first school in Northern Switzerland to be awarded the label of the international ‘Eco-Schools’ programme, officially recognising our ongoing commitment to the environment.

The Eco-Schools initiative (https://www.ecoschools.global/ ) is one of the largest school-based sustainable development programmes launched in over 70 countries. It involves teachers, parents and children, and offers us a fantastic opportunity to work on a range of themes designed to improve our awareness of the environment and integrate eco-friendly activities, attitudes and habits into our daily lives.
Cultural integration
Les Coquelicots was founded in 2006 by parents who wanted to offer their children a serious education based on multiculturalism. Today, this philosophy remains one of our main pillars, which we have strongly developed since the school opened. As a comprehensive school in Basel, we offer children many opportunities to broaden their cultural horizons in an inclusive way:
- Regional cultural events such as the Basel Carnival, the Lantern Parade, the Vogel Gryff and the Autumn Fair are an integral part of our programme.
- Classics such as Christmas, Easter egg hunts and the end-of-year festivities are also very popular and a regular feature of our school calendar....
- Whole-school activities and projects reinforce the family atmosphere of our school and give children the opportunity to get to know and integrate with pupils from other classes.
Parent participation
Parents are strongly encouraged to join us for our morning meetings and to take an active part in school events such as the summer festival, carnival or lantern parade.
Transition for expats
Our diverse bilingual education programme offers many options and flexibility for you and your child's future. It opens doors to multilingual communities and schools in Switzerland and around the world.
